No yuri updates, but I uploaded my manga page earlier today! I keep oscillating violently between, "Wow, this design is so nice and simple and effective!" and "Wow, this design is absolutely hideous," so I think I'm going to sit with it for a bit before I make any drastic changes. There are still a lot of subsections I still need to add anyway.
In my last post, there were a few things I said I wanted to discuss, but I'm a little tired so I'm going to keep it to one thing for now. One Piece: Heroines is absolutely perfect. The character designs are so lovely and true to Suwa Sayaka's iterations of the characters (THE PIGTAILS AAARRHHHGGGH JUST KILL ME), and the characterizations of Nami and Robin are so full of life. I liked seeing them hang out together. And their heist/attack team up! Their bond is so special to me! It felt like a glimpse into an average day in the life, outside of all the hectic world-saving. So many little markers of personality and habit that we don't really see much in the main series are present — Nami singing as she works on her maps, trusting the rest of the crew to handle the intruders yet still being ready to hand out a beatdown herself when necessary. Her gushing over the shoes she likes to Robin and Chopper. Just how genuinely cheerful and passionate she is. Part of what makes this and Fan Letter and even, to a certain extent, all of the color spreads and cover stories so great is how much we get a concentrated look into the wider world of One Piece. It makes each place the Straw Hats visit (and even don't visit) feel lived-in rather than just a setpiece Oda ticks off on his plot progression list. I love seeing all the boring, granular details of what it might be like to live there as an average person. Nami is probably my favorite character from anything ever, so seeing her get not one, but two of these specials dedicated to how wonderful and kind she is, and how the world is being changed for the better because of what she represents, could make me die of happiness. Robin is gorgeous here. Robinami 5ever. Seriously, did anyone else think that Robin was going to give Nami a kiss at the end? Koyasu Takehito killed it as Lebno. Background Sanji was cute too ♡ I can't wait for the rest of the Heroines stories to get adapted.
Unless I make my anime page between now and then, I think I'm going to hold off on sharing my thoughts on Akira until I see the film again in September. Or maybe not. I do kind of want to talk about it. Who knows. I also think I want to make a dedicated thing for Kamiina Botan. I've been watching Evangelion so I can see the film in theaters on Wednesday, and I have a lot of thoughts to share about that + all of the seasonals I've been watching (please go watch Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia and Goodbye, Lara!!!). But I'm tired. That's all for now. Thank you!
